Curriculum

Stefan Clockaerts studeerde in 2008 af aan de Universiteit Antwerpen, waarna hij in 2015 zijn specialisatie in orthopedische chirurgie en traumatologie behaalde. Naast zijn assistentschap in verschillende Vlaamse ziekenhuizen, ging hij een jaar aan de slag aan het University College Hospital of London. Aanvullend volgde hij voet- en enkel-fellowships in AZ Monica (Antwerpen) en de St. Maartenskliniek (Nijmegen). Daarnaast voltooide hij ook verschillende visiting fellowships in Europa. Van 2017 tot en met 2019 was hij staflid op de dienst orthopedie bij AZ Groeninge (Kortrijk).

Tijdens zijn opleiding behaalde hij een doctoraatstitel op basis van onderzoek in het Erasmus MC (Rotterdam) naar kraakbeenpathologie. Dit doctoraatswerk werd bekroond met de FWRO Rotary Award voor beste PhD-thesis.
Naast zijn klinische praktijk als voet- en enkelchirurg, werkt dr. Clockaerts verder aan een onderzoekslijn omtrent artrose van de enkel. Dit gebeurt in samenwerking met het Labo Biomechanica en het Skeletal Biology and Engineering Research Center van de KU Leuven. In 2019 ontving hij hiervoor een beurs vanwege het Reumafonds voor wetenschappelijk onderzoek.
Sinds 2019 is hij voorzitter van de kersvers opgerichte Orthopedie- en Traumavereniging ‘OTC Belgium’. Hij is bestuurslid van de Belgische Vereniging voor Voet- en Enkelchirurgie en reviewer voor het toonaangevende tijdschrift Journal Foot and Ankle Surgery.
